How Does CWP Benefit Community Agencies and the People They Serve?

The contributions of the students are very important to us at the Chapter. They are able to extend our efforts, and I do believe that their exposure to the organization is valuable to them as well. I and WE appreciate the contribution. --Noreen Dowling, agency mentor, Palo Alto Chapter of the American Red Cross

The Community Writing Project has worked with over 250 Bay Area community non-profits, pairing PWR students with organizations in need of help with research, writing, and speaking tasks. While students benefit educationally from their participation in the Community Writing Project, participating agencies benefit as well -- in very tangible ways. Since so many non-profit organizations are critically underfunded and understaffed, CWP students make a substantial contribution to the fulfillment of agencies' missions.

Community organizations working with Stanford CWP students have been consistently pleased by the high quality of the materials that students produce. Agency staff report that they appreciate the enthusiasm and fresh perspectives that Stanford students bring to their work for the agencies and that they relish their roles as mentors and coaches for students as they fulfill their community projects.

The outreach materials that Nicole and Terri developed are invaluable marketing tools which we will use to inform the community about our services. I was very impressed with how both Terri and Nicole picked up on the underlying principles of empowerment that drive our work here at the Rape Crisis Center. They took in the mission and intention of our crisis services and were able to create a new, inspiring message that is both appropriate and germane. --Julie Maxson, agency mentor, YWCA Rape Crisis Center

Your students Jimmy, Rachel, and Katie came to our organization, stepped into the task of organizing and writing a newsletter with pictures, graphics, and a calendar of events Their work is professional, creative, concise and truly represents the work of our organization. --Willard Davis, agency mentor, Attitudinal Healing Network
