Program Meetings
Program Meetings and Professional Development Workshops (described
briefly in the section on PWR Committees below) offer one way of
building community together. We hold Program meetings roughly three
times a quarter, sharing and discussing news about the Program’s
ongoing goals and accomplishments, revisions to our curriculum,
objectives for the coming months, and reports from our Committees.
Often, specific committees will run a portion of the Program Meeting,
leading Professional Development workshops or facilitating discussions
on topics such as improving how technology supports teaching, developing
teaching portfolios, exchanging knowledge gained from attending
major conferences in the field, translating pedagogical practices
into publications, and following trends in the discipline. In recent
years, we have established a small group of instructors interested
in developing knowledge of writing program administration, and
this group meets periodically for additional professional development.
Finally, all post-doctoral teaching fellows join a group that meets
with the Director and Associate Director several times a quarter
to discuss professional issues and to workshop an article, chapter,
or presentation being worked on by one of its members.
