Asking Inappropriate or Problematic Questions

Students may sometimes ask questions you have already answered on a number of occasions, ask you over and over again for a verbal assessment of their status or grade in the class, or ask questions or raise issues that are loaded or hostile. As in dealing with other disruptive behavior, begin by speaking privately with the student, pointing out the ways in which the questions or issues fall beyond the bounds of appropriate classroom behavior. If the problem persists, you should bring it to the attention of PWR directors, who will help you develop additional strategies for addressing it.
