Failing to Complete Assignments

PWR policy requires that students complete allassignments, including drafts, in order to pass the course. Again, students will have seen this policy in your syllabus and you will have discussed it with them. In addition, many PWR instructors do not give extensions for student work unless that extension is given, in writing, before the due date. Such a policy makes sense in a writing class, where progress is dependent on getting timely response to drafts and working on revisions. If a student fails to complete work in your class, remind the student of the PWR policy; if the student continues not to complete work, you should write to the student, so that you have a record of the correspondence, reiterating our policy. You may also want to notify the PWR Associate Director to express your concern. Undergraduate Advising Programs asks us to report any students in danger of failing a course, and it’s important that you respond to their request at mid-quarter, though if you sense a problem you can report it at any time.
